Leeds Jewish Welfare Board took place on Monday 2 November 2009 and was attended by The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Elliott.
LJWB President, Mr Edward Ziff, praised the dedication of trustees, volunteers and fulltime staff during the continued effects of the financial downturn. He also noted that the merger of the Welfare Board and Care Services was an astute move.
Mr Ziff spoke abot the organisation operating a fresh approach to fundraising and the fact that the full effect of the economic downturn had not been felt. "Our social workers are now having to deal with family breakdown, unemployment, housing repossessions and rising personal debt". "The responsibility for caring for vulnerable groups in our community falls on organisations like ours...and more is being asked of us ".
Although times ahead are tough for all especially for organisations such as LJWB whose resources are being considerably stretched Chief Executive Rebecca Weinberg praised the 170 of LJWB and LJCS and commented that "Our greatest asset is not measured in financial terms, but in terms of human resources
