Welcome to the Rainbow Project.
The Rainbow Project has been providing services for people with learning disabilities since 1987.
The Project supports people who have a wide range of disabilities, including those who have physical disabilities and provides services in a variety of ways
We provide 3 Registered Homes that offer 24/7 care and support for adults with learning disabilities. The Homes are registered with, and regulated by, The Commission for Social Care Inspection; Environmental Health Department and the Fire Authority, to name by a few. We comply with very detailed Standards in terms of the home environment, staff qualifications and involvement of our service users. We recognise the uniqueness and individuality of the people we work with and focus on their strengths as well as needs
Each house, which is located in the heart of the Jewish community, generates a very positive and warm atmosphere in which the service users have “ownership” of their environment. . Bedrooms are individually personalise and each room is equipped with hand wash basins or en-suite facilities .All the communal areas are furnished to a very high standard and one house has a lift where we are able to facilitate wheelchair users. All 3 houses have their own transport to enable people to access a wide range of social and day time activities
The daily running of each of the Homes is influenced and structured around the specific needs of the people who live there. The purpose and function of the Homes is to provide a high standard of care that is conducive to ordinary family life, in a relaxed but traditional Jewish environment. . We actively ensure that the dignity and respect of each of our service users is maintained and everyone is encouraged and supported to meet their religious, cultural and spiritual needs. We make certain that everything we do is driven by the aspirations and needs of our service users and not by management and staff. Our desire is to remain responsive to the needs of the people we support and to ensure that we provide “individualised” quality care.
Our service delivery is based upon a “person centred” approach to ensure that all individuals are given opportunities to lead fulfilling lives. Using this approach ensures that the individual person is at the “heart” of the planning process. The service users are actively encouraged to fully participate in all aspects of daily life, from menu planning, suggesting interior décor, shopping, to individual budgeting. People are encouraged to cook their own meals, although staff support is provided as and when required.
The Project places the highest priority on the improvement and maintenance of quality care through regular assessments, care plans and multi-disciplinary support. We use the care planning and risk assessment process to develop a safe and stimulating environment for people. We always include the service users as well as family and friends of their choosing. We are committed to working in close co-operation with other Agencies and professionals to ensure that we provide the highest quality of care. Our care plans are developed to make sure that we can support people to work towards a more rewarding, fulfilling and independent way of life.
The service users are supported by a team of highly trained staff all of whom undergo a Criminal Records Check. Some of the staff have worked for the Project for many years and have a good knowledge of the people for whom they provide care. Our training strategy is to ensure that all staff attain National Vocational Qualifications relevant to their post. All new staff joining the Project undertake an extensive induction programme.
Our Community Service is facilitated by a full time Community Support worker. We work alongside learning disabled people living in their own homes and other types of accommodation, such as Local Authority Hostels. Many of our service users live in property owned by our sister Organisation, Leeds Jewish Housing Association an have their own tenancies. Our aims and objectives are to enable people to accomplish such tasks as shopping, cooking, personal care and self medication.
We provide a twice weekly “drop in” at the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Community Centre to give people a chance to socialise with others in a safe, warm and friendly environment. This has enabled people to form new friendships as well as promoting the service users community presence and participation. This has enabled service users to develop more and more ways of integrating activities into their lives.
We also run a “Job Club” each Monday and will soon have a computer with a touch monitor and printer with internet access. All service users will benefit from using the interactive computer, which will hopefully help people to develop their concentration span.
We also support people to access the following:-
We facilitate a social Club every Wednesday and we have a regular gathering of around 25 people. The membership of the Club is actively involved in preparing a programme of varied and interesting activities. We have 2 very active and committed volunteers who work with us each week but we are always seeking more people so if you have any time to spare please give us a call – we would love to hear from you!
The programme of activities is changed each half year and some of the “regulars” that appear on the programme are bowling, treasure hunts, quizzes and theatre trips. Also included on our summer programme are boating trips and picnics, weather permitting of course!!
The Club membership also undertakes two fundraising activities per year. On previous occasions “strawberries and cream tea” afternoons have been popular as well as sponsored walks, but we are always exploring new ways to involve and interest people to support us.
The Project has recently undergone a Review and we have some exciting times ahead of us.
